Trauer tragen

20.11, 7pm

From now on, The GAK and the Schwankhalle will occasionally meet for PING PONG. They will show each other artists whose works are located between the visual and performing arts.

The prelude fo the thew series on “Totensonntag” (Sunday before Advent on which the dead are commemorated) will be Hendrik Quast and Maika Knoblich with Trauer tragen, an introduction to funeral floristry. Before the eyes of the visitors, a personalised grave arrangement of real flowers is created: cypress, salal and ivy form the green basis for the strict interplay of red carnation and bright yellow chrysanthemum. The decorative arrangement is interrupted by the return of the lily, before the dark red, almost black rose brings the work to a temporary conclusion. Flower-tying goes hand in hand with a description of the work steps while at the same time the phases of the mourning process are traced on the lifeless cut flower material: shock, control, regression and adaptation. The floristic language sets associations in motion that do not end at the cemetery and open up spaces beyond the person to be mourned.
