“Prospero’s Books”, Peter Greenaway’s turbulent film spectacle to Shakespeare’s “Tempest”, was one of the most praised cinema events of the past year, a confusing game with all cinematic and theatrical means, which has a lot to do with Greenaway’s own film language. As a painter and draughtsman, which he is from his origins, the english filmmaker understands how to manipulate images, to make the coincidental appear as intended and the trivial appear significant. the key to understanding the film lies in the 24 drawn books of the artist, which were created before and during the shooting and from which the GAK presents 40 pages in a series of single sheets as an exhibition.
