As part of the anniversary, from September 21 to November 3, 2024 we will be showing the two installations Verflechtungen–Ein Teppich aus Erinnerungen by Annemarie Strümpfler & Hanna Döring and Gehen, Sammeln, Aufzeichnen by Petra Fiebig in the foyer of the GAK.

Annemarie Strümpfler and Hanna Döring braid, weave, knit and combine tape material from audio and VHS cassettes to create a large-format carpet. Embedded in the carpet are memories from the past four decades from various people who gave the artists the tape material together with their verbalized memories. The carpet is presented as part of the performance “echoes”, which was created by several artists (with Renate Büge, Bianca Hein, Silke Mohrhoff, Hanna Döring, Annemarie Strümpfler). Through the performance, the time spirit contained in the media is reflected in a multi-layered way.

Within the time frame of the anniversary events, the artist Petra Fiebig is creating an individual network. Based on walks to the individual venues or production sites of the festival participants, she generated a collection of digitally recorded routes, photographic material and notes from conversations, which focuses on the artist’s profession and turns the network into a central subject. Hand drawings are generated from the digital routes which, together with the interview notes and photographic material, visualize the process of a growing collection of material.

40 years of the Bremen Women Artists’ Association–40 days of the Mind the mycelium art festival: Between September 20 and November 10, 2024, mycelium-like collaborations will take place between 70 artists at 20 art venues in Bremen and the surrounding area. The underground network of a mushroom offers the metaphor for a feminist and anti-patriarchal approach to society: as a complex, rhizomatic and non-hierarchical network, mycelium enables the surrounding ecosystem to cooperate and provide for each other. Knowledge creation and communication are organized by swarm intelligence. Within their projects, the artists make artistic collaboration visible, mediate together, explore materialities and future directions of the mycelium and its fruiting bodies using artistic methods and show feminist perspectives in art (history).
