The base of object #239-1 was made by a friend, the plate was found on the bulky waste near her studio and the foot of the object is made from the waste of a bronze casting workshop – Lone Haugaard Madsen assembles her sculptures from various found materials. In order to unite these different materials in one object, the artist tries to free them from their symbolic and functional nature. In this “liberation” resides her future poetry: a dirty rag for paint brushes combined with a simple piece of wood becomes the appearance of a head. Individual sentences emerge from the glued remains of a newspaper and charge a sculpture with a completely different meaning. The materials used by Haugaard Madsen often come from the studios or exhibitions of other artists. Thus, on the one hand, her works raise the question of the authorship of the artwork; on the other hand, they are in the tradition of sculptural autonomy.
