Peter Piller is in search of the myths and absurdities of our everyday reality. For instance, when he assembles found newspaper pictures into groups such as in his works Müll als Skulptur (engl.: Garbage as sculpture) or In Reihe stehende Menschen (engl.: People standing in a line). Or when he evaluates a corporate estate of around 12.000 aerial photographs of single-family houses from the 1980s that were once offered for sale to their proud owners. Piller arranges the negatives and photographs contained in the estate under the collective title Von Erde schöner (engl.: From earth more beautiful) in his own way. He registers contexts where none originally existed, thus creating subgroups such as Schlafende Häuser (houses with blinds down) or Behelfsheime (houses with a tent in the garden) – almost unnoticed by the viewer and only recognizable at second glance. In developing the negatives, he “corrects” the typical colouring of the 1980s into the present, causing a subliminal irritation. For GAK he provides two single pictures from the series Von Erde schöner.
