The charms by Rebekka Kronsteiner are a series of works by the Bremen artist and at the same time products of KOSK*I – feminist culture kiosk.
The charms can be attached to bracelets, fanny packs or other accessories and clothing. Following the basic idea of a piece of jewelry, they serve as decoration – in doing so, the small colorful sex toys and vulvas playfully refer to questions about the lack of representation of female and queer sexuality in everyday life. Glowing and glittering, they unfold their resistive and emancipatory potential in a visual culture dominated by phallic symbolism. In their visibility, and thus always communicative quality, the charms also serve as conversation starters – in accordance with the principles of KOSK*I, which sees itself as a “medium, social meeting place, communication center, and temple of the satisfaction of our everyday needs” …
KOSK*I is a kiosk concept that aims to expand and equally question the current Bremen kiosk landscape through alternative and feminist-oriented consumption and participation offerings. Still in search of a permanent location, KOSK*I currently takes place as a vendor’s tray or in cooperation with institutions. On the occasion of the Long Night of Bremen Museums, the GAK invited KOSK*I and Rebekka Kronsteiner to develop charms for the Long Night admission wristbands.
