Andrej Polukord

Andrej Polukord’s work often contains moments of absurdity, which he likes to take from everyday contexts and process in performances, installations and video work. Thus, among other things, fungi in all sizes and materials are a recurring motif in the artistic work of Andrej Polukord, who admits that he feels more comfortable in the forest than in air-conditioned exhibition rooms.

For his annual edition, Oft, sehr oft, finde ich viele künstliche Pilze, he once again operated as an artificial fungi collector and discovered a series of three mushrooms made from black ceramic. The anthracite-coloured surfaces of these so-called black ceramics are created in a firing process in which little air is added, thus removing oxygen from the clay. Polukord’s mushrooms, which as a result of this effect appear fragile and charred, play with the relationship between nature and human, and also with the question of transience.
