Cezary Bodzianowski

2008

Cezary Bodzianowski is one of the most famous representatives of Polish contemporary art. He is on the track of the absurdities of everyday life. With an attitude of seeming approval, he breaks the boundaries of normality and reveals a touch of freedom in everyday processes. He does so in the form of site-specific performances that take place in public space without the public noticing them as such. These are documented on film and transferred into the exhibition space.

For Bodzianowski’s exhibition Maybe at GAK, six films were made on site. They approach the urban conditions by taking up the maritime tradition of Bremen, the location of the GAK in the middle of the Weser or the history of the Bremen town musicians. Bodzianowski’s annual edition also takes up these ideas: it is an object in the form of a barge, was made from matchboxes with the CI of the GAK, bears the name of a ship moored near the institution and is at the same time an actor in one of the films the artist developed for his exhibition in Bremen.
