Hanna Schwarz’ series träge körper (english: inert bodies), which she made available to the GAK as an annual edition, was created in connection with the artists intensive preoccupation with dance – with the phenomenon of the body or corporeality on a stage, with the masses seeking to transform themselves into lightness through movement. Such notions are reflected in the abstract constellations of forms of the five unique pieces, which set dark blocks of colour and a coarse handling of material against light colour and a delicate silk fabric. For this purpose Schwarz has cut up paintings on silk and reassembled them as a collage. The cliché of silk painting, which actually belongs to the field of hobby art, is deliberately undermined here: the fragile material was smeared, marked, roughly cut apart and seemingly carelessly glued on. In this way, categories such as incapacity are reassessed. Through their open display, the once agonizing not-being-able-to turns into a decided not-wanting-to and not-needing-to.
