The drawings, videos and performances of David Sherry are commentaries on the everyday. Ironic and tender in equal measure, Sherry questions the codes and conventions that influence human patterns of behaviour. In his work the artist refers to aspects of human coexistence and addresses the matter of the boundaries of social acceptability and daily political topics.
Sherry’s annual edition for the GAK comprises five drawings whose reduced lines and colours give the work a sketch-like character. These recorded moments of everyday life bear witness to the symptoms of a society in crisis without assuming an agitating or didactic character. With a keen eye and a dose of humour, Sherry allows the profane world of things collide with another reality. The result is exaggerated and absurd stories in which the accompanying dialogues illuminate the difficulties of interpersonal relationships.
