The artistic work of Koenraad Dedobbeleer is driven by his desire to undermine our pigeonhole thinking and to override conventional categories. Accordingly, his work makes no distinction between copy and original or design, everyday object, book or self-created work. Everything is contained in everything, everything can stand for everything. As a result, he creates a new perspective on the things we all think we already know. In order to achieve this, his artistic approach consists to a large extent of influencing the viewer’s gaze – for example, by clearly directing the view of the presented works through specially developed displays such as pedestals, metal structures, floor surfaces or architectural elements.
In view of his mistrust of fixed categories, it is only logical that Koenraad Dedobbeleer does not want to see his own person categorized either. For this reason, his artistic work also includes activities as a curator as well as numerous and extremely varied book projects. At the finissage on January 25, the artist presents some of his journalistic projects and thus another facet of his work at the GAK.
As part of the finissage of the exhibition “Koenraad Dedobbeleer. A Quarrel In A Faraway Country Between People Of Whom We Know Nothing”.
