Shannon Bool
The Second Lens

09.11, 07:00 pm

In an evening encompassing film, literature and photography, Shannon Bool will explore how ideas of the “domestic” were not only politicized in the history of art, but also, more subtly, were used as formal material in their own rights. Corresponding the photography of Jan Groover with the late American short story writer Lucia Berlin, Martha Rosler’s Semiotics of the Kitchen, and the self reflexive studio examinations of Geta Bratescu, Bool will outline parallels of intense examination that take place within what we determine as “banal.”

Shannon Bool was born in Comox, British Columbia in 1972, and lives in Berlin. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2015); Bonner Kunstverein, Bonn, Germany (2012); Peles Empire, Cluj (2011); GAK Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst Bremen (2010); Centre Rhénan d’Art Contemporain Alsace, Altkirch (2010); RMIT Project Space/Spare Room, Melbourne (2008) a.o. It has also been included in group exhibitions at Portikus, Frankfurt/Main (2017); White Cube Gallery, London (2017); Montréal Biennial (2016); The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2015); MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt/Main (2014); Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin (2013) a.o.
