Jan Eilhardt
Janine zieht aufs Land
Film screening & talk
in cooperation with the HfK Bremen
Janine has made up her mind. Together with her asthmatic partner, she’s turning her back on Berlin. Yet in the lifeless village streets, her queer appearance doesn’t just awaken positive associations. This path still lies in front of neighbor Peter, who lives with his overwhelmed mother and his brother Enrico. Janine’s arrival stokes his yearnings, but also implies coming out and all the fears that entails. Processing his own provincial past, Jan Eilhardt weaves a selection of private videoclips and photos into his film which reveal that Janine has been accompanying him for many years.
Screening in German OV with English subtitles, followed by a talk with Jan Eilhardt, moderated by Beat Brogle and Florian Wüst. The talk will be held in German, questions can be asked in English, too.
The event takes place as part of the practical course Technologien der Sorge und die Wiederverzauberung der Welt which Brogle and Wüst are offering during the winter semester of 2026/27 in the Moving Image department of the Integrated Design program at the HfK Bremen. Drawing on texts by Silvia Federici and Yvonne Volkart, the course explores sensitivity, equality, and interdependence as both political stances and artistic methods—in an effort to counter the intensification of current cultural struggles, not by turning away from politics, but as a quieter, more resistant, and more sustainable form of it.
Jan Eilhardt studied film and performance at the HFBK Hamburg and worked as an assistant to Heiner Müller at the Berliner Ensemble. Jan’s feature films, short films, and experimental projects are screened at international film festivals, in theater programs, and in museums and galleries.
In his media art works, Beat Brogle explores morphological processes, the boundaries of perception, and virtual vitality. Since 2015, he is professor for Moving Image in the Integrated Design program at the HfK Bremen.
Florian Wüst is a freelance film curator and co-founder of the Berlin-based journal Berliner Hefte zu Geschichte und Gegenwart der Stadt. He teaches as an adjunct instructor in the Integrated Design program at the HfK Bremen and in the Art and Media program at the UdK Berlin.
