Stephan Berg, Christian Haake
The World as a Model

23.06, 07:00 pm

Under the title Die Welt als Modell (The World as a Model) Christian Haake and Stephan Berg, Director of the Kunstmuseum Bonn, meet for an artist talk in the context of the exhibition “White Elephant”. Haake’s artistic work and development will be reflected upon against the background of the exhibition at the GAK. The discussion will focus on the relationship between memory, representation and reality, which is central to Haake’s work.

Christian Haake was born in 1969 in Bremerhaven. He studied art history and philosophy at the University of Bremen and fine arts at the HfK Bremen (master student of Prof. Yuji Takeoka). In 2007 he received the Bremen Prize for the Promotion of Fine Arts and in 2009 the Prize of the Friends of the University of the Arts. The exhibition at the GAK is his first institutional solo presentation.

Prof. Dr. Stephan Berg (*1959 in Freiburg i. Brsg.) has been director of the Kunstmuseum Bonn since 2008. After studying German, English and History in Tübingen, Berlin and Freiburg (doctorate in German Studies), he headed the Kunstverein Freiburg from 1990 to 2000 and was director of the Kunstverein Hannover from 2001 to 2008. Since 2004 Berg has been an honorary professor at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig. As a freelance journalist, he has been writing for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and magazines such as Kunstforum International and Artist since the mid-1980s. He has published numerous essays and catalogues on contemporary art.
