An essential moment in the work of Alexandra Leykauf (*1976 in Nuremberg) consists in the reversal of the principle of a reduction to the surface, as it occurs when photographing a corporeal object, in that the artist spatializes the picture surface again. She frequently uses found images as starting material, which she transfers into new forms, formats and displays. By means of strong enlargement, re-colouring, perspective shifts or the use of unusual image carriers, she creates image spaces that challenge the viewer’s point of view, his or her own vision and expectations of the photographic image.
In this way, some aspects of her artistic work tie in with the questions posed by the group exhibition “Dealing with Surfaces”, for which Leykauf has developed a new work. During the artist talk, a deeper insight into the work and working methods of Alexandra Leykauf will be made possible.
