Julia Voss
Gentleman’s Club Modernism. Why Art History Has to Be Rewritten

31.01, 07:00 pm

What has become of the many painting, drawing and sculpting women of modernity? Why do they still play such a minor role in art history and the art world today? The lecture begins with the changes in the 19th century that gave a large number of women access to art, and then deals with the events of the 20th century that led to women artists being removed from art history.

Dr. Julia Voss is senior editor in the art department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. She studied art history in Freiburg i. Brsg., London and Berlin. For her feminist commitment, she received the Luise-Büchner Prize for Journalism in 2013. She last curated the exhibition 1938: Kunst, Künstler, Politik at the Jewish Museum in Frankfurt (until February 23, 2014).

Following the lecture, the neighboring cooking and restaurant project penGwyn will be open.
