“One characteristic of contemporary society is the experience of temporal acceleration and drive. Time-related stress is not only, but above all, widespread among working people. In addition to considering time in the world of work and life, the lecture will deal with the temporalization and economization of everyday time. A presentation of selected statements of employed persons on their experience of time, thinking and acting in time, commented by sociologists of time, will encourage us to think about the resource time and how we deal with it.” – Dr. Nadine Schöneck-Voß
Dr. Nadine Schöneck-Voß, born in Neuwied/Rhine in 1975, has been studying social sciences in Bochum, Austin/Texas and Oxford and has been dealing with contemporary issues from a contemporary sociological perspective. In 2003 she won the German Study Prize of the Körber Foundation in Hamburg on this topic. In her dissertation, she devoted herself to the time experience and time action of working people. She works as a research assistant at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Bremen.
The lecture will take place on the occasion of the presentation of Fiete Stolte’s work in the context of the current group exhibition. Stolte breaks away from the generally valid set of rules of our conventional division of time and arranges his life in an individual order by dividing his week into eight days of 21 hours. His work High Noon / Neue Nationalgalerie shown in the exhibition reveals the deviations of socially and individually lived time systems and questions the limits of social (ordinances) orders.
